Access and Parking
The site benefits from close proximity to a range of day-to-day amenities. It is on a high frequency bus corridor (bus stops shown as dots to the left) but also benefits from proximity to local car parks. Development in such locations is in keeping with national and city policy, which seeks to encourage building in areas that are well served by local amenities and public transport. This makes shorter journeys more likely, and reduces the need for a car.
Notwithstanding this, the site will provide car parking and cycle parking as well as electric vehicle charge points. The team is in discussion with Southampton City Council regarding rent or purchase of local overnight parking spaces.
The team is also considering providing car club vehicles for short term vehicle hire to new and existing residents. They are popular with people who occasionally need access to a car but wish to avoid the expense of owning one - and provide a genuine alternative to car ownership. Several vehicles are already available in Southampton. If local feedback is positive, the team would be open to approaching a car club, with a view to providing one or two cars.
